Our philosophy

The symbolic meaning of the name of the Camp and the Guest House - Shepherd's Watch-fire - was kapu1_300meant to express our devotion to preserving rural traditions, values and culture in Transylvania, just as the shepherd guards the fire on long autumn nights. The Camp and the Guest House provide ideal surroundings for visitors who want to discover this part of a wonderful place called Transylvania. A warm and friendly welcome awaits the tourist, who will spend an unforgettable time here and get an insight into local traditional crafts as well as the still preserved folkloric traditions. We are sure that anyone who once gets the taste of this beautiful countryside will certainly come back here.

The settlement

Transylvania is a tiny part of Europe that used to belong to Hungary for 1000 years, and it was the Trianon Treaty after World War I that gave this territory to Romania. Today Transylvania is the home of one of Europe's largest ethnic minorities, the Hungarians of Romania.

Nyárádszentlászló (Romanian name: Sinvasii) is a small village situated on the banks of the river Nyárád (Niraj), about 20 km from Marosvásárhely (Tirgu Mures), one of the most important commercial and cultural centres of the Transylvanian region of Romania. The most famous tourist attraction in Transylvania, the birthplace of Count Dracula, is situated about 50 km from here. Tirgu Mures Airport is only 30 km away (with regular and low-cost flights from several European destinations).

Beside the picturesque hillsides and natural treasures, the settlement boasts perhaps the oldest church building in Transylvania. Sited on the top of a sloping hill, the Unitarian church - preserved in its original state - looks proudly over the gentle countryside. It was consecrated in the 13th century as a homage to the great king of Hungary, St. Ladislas I. According to the legend, King Ladislas camped in this spot during a hunting trip, and later he established a monastery here.

The village is inhabited by warm and friendly ethnic Hungarians, and the wonderful countryside attracts many tourists to walk and wander.
